Manuel Afonseca is expected to be arraigned today, but the Norfolk District Attorney's Office has not released the charges he is expected to face. Authorities said the arrest comes after months of investigation.
Afonseca is accused of crashing into Michael McGrath, 56, on Blue Hill Avenue on March 8, according to the Patriot Ledger. McGrath was taking his 15-year-old son to hockey practice at Xaverian Brothers High School, which was only a few blocks from their home, his wife told the paper.
Amy Moody McGrath told the newspaper that her husband was a fun-loving man who cherished his family.
“He was just everything to us. We were together for 25½ years and had a really nice marriage and kids. We lived for that,” McGrath said. “He was very supportive of my career, and he was the primary person here at home on a day-to-day basis. Like my son has said, there’s a huge hole in our family. It's very unfair.”
McGrath's son was hospitalized in the crash and required surgery. Afonseca was also seriously injured in the wreck, reports at the time said.
